Pelletising

The term pelletising is sometimes also used for granulating or agglomerating. In industrial practice, however, pelletising usually refers to the mechanical pressing of dry bulk solids to form them. This may involve tablet presses, roller presses, extruder presses, flap presses, prilling presses or briquetting presses.

All of these processes can only work well if the bulk material is sufficiently homogeneous. The mixing process is an upstream process if the pellets consist of several powder components.

A lot of heat energy is generated during the pressing process. The pellets usually need to be sufficiently cooled before packaging.
